Ama

The rain was able to cool off the early morning, but it was sure hot and humid by mid morning. At chapel this morning, we did not have electricity because of the storm last night. This means no microphones, no projector, no lights, and no fans. It was hot.
Our focus bible story was Jesus calms the storm. Today we had the kids divide into 4 groups. Each group was a different part of the "storm":  thunder, lightning, wind, and rain. The kids absolutely loved participating in the skit today!

For breakfast today we had bread and butter, coffee, and some scrambled eggs with peppers and pinto beans. Delicious! At break time, we taught the kids the game Red Rover. They really enjoyed it, but some of them didn't fully grasp the concept of calling another person to their own team. All they wanted to do was go run to the other side. It was hilarious!

Before lunch, we went to 1 Sparrows (1st grade). They weren't in their classroom, but in with the other 1st grade, 1 Falcons. Their religion teacher was not done with class so we returned to our break room. No less than 10 minutes later, some kids called on us to come back and come back to their room. The two teachers of the two classrooms thought it would be easier to combine the two classes for us instead of doing doing one class at a time.  We walked into a room crowded with 45 1st graders. Challenge accepted.

Never have I felt so out of control with students. Alicia did a great job to get them to be quiet while Jordan gave the message. But when it was time for the craft, things got crazy. Since they don't have scissors at the school for students, we had to have them tear out paper hearts. That was extremely difficult for them. Gluing on pompoms was an even bigger challenge. We only had 4 glue bottles, and things take forever to dry here in the humidity. Hopefully their glue dried and they got the message that Jesus loves them! Thank goodness it was time for lunch, we were in there for over an hour!

After our lunch we went to JHS 1 emeralds, another 6th grade class. This is the last junior high class we had to visit so we finished the fish craft with them. This group was my favorite. They were really engaged and loved making the fish. In our partner discussion, I got to talk to a girl named Ama. We had a lot to talk about and she really asked me a lot of good questions about faith. She had some difficulties believing in Jesus. I told her some of my experiences about how God has affected my life and just how important he really is to us. I was also able to pray with her right there. I am hoping, praying that I was there today to water some seeds in her life.

Since everybody else got to go to the market on Saturday when I was sick, we asked Ivan if we could go back sometime. Today was the day! We stopped there on our way back from Tema. Wow! There are a ton of cool things there and a lot to buy. Each shop you walk by, the owner invites you in, trying to sell you something that catches your eye. I loved being at the market, but I'm not the best bargainer. I had a lot of help from the people who had alreay been there, so I got some things for really cheap! Malinda may have even decided to buy a drum for over 100 cedi's less than the asking price! She's in love with it.

Well the wifi is not working tonight so this will probably be posted in the morning (Wednesday).
